“Forget 10,000 steps — this 71-year-old walks 24 km daily.” The paper walks through the schedule minute by minute: 3:30 am for 90 minutes and 7.2 km before sunrise, 7 am for another 4.8 km, 3.6 km after noon, and a final 8.4 km from 4 pm until 6:15 pm.

“I want to stay fit until I die. I don’t want to be a burden on my children,” he tells the reporter. “My pace is consistent as my target is not to run but to walk briskly.”

“Advising diabetes and BP patients to start walking daily, Dr. Vittal Kamath himself took to it in 2008, and now at 72 he is in the pink of his health.” The piece traces the routine from a 5 km New Year’s resolution to 33,000 steps a day, and the records that came with it.
